Price data for journalists
We re-read the price of every product in our catalogue once a day and keep each reading with its date. As of Oct 11, 2026 the record holds 275,321 price checks on 13,155 products, going back to Jul 26, 2026. Nothing below comes from a survey, a store’s own «was» price or a homepage banner taken at its word.
What this covers. Published trackers of online prices follow large retailers: Harvard Business School’s Pricing Lab, for example, reads about 359,000 products at five major U.S. chains (Tariff Tracker). This record covers what they leave out: independent brands’ own online stores, each price read on the brand’s own product page. Amazon listings are excluded.

What these numbers can and cannot tell you
- Every figure is the price listed on the store’s own product page. Discounts taken off at checkout (codes, spend thresholds, gifts with purchase) do not change a product's price, so they are not counted.
- A change counts only against our own previous reading of the same product. A store’s «was» or «compare at» price is never used.
- Amazon listings are excluded: their licence does not let anyone keep a price longer than 24 hours, so we have no history for them.
- The sample is the stores in our catalogue — mostly direct-to-consumer brands — not the US retail market. «At the stores Avahit tracks» is accurate; «US prices» is not.
- Holiday years before our daily checks began in July 2026 come from copies of product pages saved by the Internet Archive. Each holiday page marks which source a row uses.
The method in full is on price accuracy and methodology. Every number we later found wrong is listed on corrections, with what readers saw before the fix.
