Content moderation & appeals
Avahit hosts content other people write. This page describes what we do about it: how a report reaches us, who decides, what we tell the person affected, and how they argue back. It is written to satisfy Articles 16, 17 and 20 of the EU Digital Services Act, and it is how we work regardless of where you live.
Telling us about content (notice and action)
Three channels, all of them working:
- The Report control on every post and comment. Choose a reason, add detail, send. An account is required so we can come back to you.
- The copyright form at /dmca, which needs no account at all — rights holders are usually not our users.
- Email to [email protected] for everything else, including reports from people without an account.
A notice is easiest to act on when it contains:
- the exact address of the post, comment or profile;
- what is wrong with it, in your own words;
- why you believe it is illegal or breaks our Community Guidelines;
- a way to reach you, unless the report concerns child sexual abuse material or another offence where we do not want to slow you down;
- a statement that what you are telling us is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
We confirm receipt without undue delay and tell you the outcome. Reports sent by mistake or in bad faith are not held against you unless they are repeated and manifestly unfounded, in which case we may stop processing them after warning you.
How a decision is made
Reports are reviewed by a person. We use automated checks for a small set of signals — duplicate uploads, blocked domains, sudden report volume, links to merchants we have banned — and they can hide a post temporarily, but a human makes the decision that sticks. There is no automated permanent ban on Avahit.
A post that has been reported several times may be hidden while we look at it. Hiding is not a verdict, and the post returns if the reports do not hold up.
What we tell you when we act
If we remove your content, restrict its reach, suspend your ability to post, or terminate your account, we send you a statement of reasons that says:
- what we did, and whether it affects one post or the whole account;
- whether the decision came from a report, from our own review, or from an order by an authority;
- the ground: which law or which rule of the Community Guidelines, quoted, not summarised;
- whether automated means were involved in detection;
- how to challenge it.
The one exception is content that is deceptive commercial spam at volume, where the law does not require us to explain ourselves to the spammer.
Appealing
You have six months from the decision to appeal. Reply to the notice or write to [email protected] with the word appeal and tell us why the decision is wrong. A different person from the one who made the original call reviews it, and the review is not automated.
We aim to answer within seven days, and we say so plainly if a case takes longer. If we agree with you, the content comes back and any strike against the account is removed. If we do not, you keep the right to take the matter to an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified in your EU member state, or to a court. Using our appeal first is not a precondition for either.
Orders from authorities
When a court or a competent authority orders us to remove specific content or to hand over information about a user, we act on it and, unless the order forbids it, tell the user what happened and which authority asked. What we require from law enforcement is set out in Law enforcement requests.
Repeat offenders
Accounts that keep posting content we have already removed lose the ability to post, then the account. Copyright is stricter and has its own counter: repeat infringement ends the account under our copyright policy, which is the condition US law attaches to hosting other people’s content at all. Accounts used primarily to file abusive reports are suspended on the same logic.
What we do not do
- We do not remove a post because a merchant dislikes the review. Criticism of a product is not a rule violation.
- We do not sell moderation outcomes. No amount of spending changes whether a post stays up.
- We do not scan private messages, because there are none: everything on Avahit is public.
Point of contact
Authorities, courts and users can reach us in writing at [email protected] and by post at MonacoWebPix, C/o CATS, Le Forum, 28 Boulevard Princesse Charlotte, 98000 Monaco. Correspondence is accepted in English, French, German and Portuguese. This is a single electronic point of contact, not a form behind a login, and it is monitored by a person.
We publish what our moderation actually amounted to over the year — how many notices, how many removals, how many appeals succeeded — in our transparency report.
