Accessibility statement
Avahit aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard the European Accessibility Act points to for e-commerce services. This statement says where we actually are, not where we would like to be.
Current status: partially conformant
Partially conformant means most of the service meets the standard and some parts do not. We have not yet commissioned an independent audit, so this is a self-assessment based on our own testing with keyboard navigation, browser zoom and a screen reader.
What works
- Every page is reachable and readable without JavaScript-driven navigation: product pages, profiles, collections and legal pages are server-rendered HTML with real links.
- Text scales to 200% without loss of content, and the layout has no horizontal scrolling at 320 CSS pixels.
- Product images carry alt text derived from the product title.
- Forms have associated labels, and errors are announced rather than shown by colour alone.
- Colour contrast for body text and buttons meets the 4.5:1 ratio.
- Videos are muted by default and never autoplay with sound; motion can be reduced through your operating system’s reduce-motion setting.
Known problems
These are real, and we are working on them:
- Focus management in modal sheets and dialogs is incomplete — focus is not always trapped inside the sheet or returned to the trigger on close.
- Some interactive elements lack an accessible name, notably icon-only controls in the bottom navigation.
- The masonry grid reorders visually in a way that can differ from the DOM order on some breakpoints, which affects screen-reader sequence.
- Videos have no captions. We do not generate them yet, and creators cannot upload caption files.
- Price history charts convey information visually; the underlying numbers are given in text nearby, but the chart itself is not fully described.
Assistive technology we test with
VoiceOver on macOS and iOS with Safari, keyboard-only navigation in Chrome and Firefox, and browser zoom to 200%. We do not currently test with JAWS or NVDA on Windows.
Content we do not control
Posts are written by creators. We generate alt text from the product title when a creator does not supply a description, but we cannot guarantee that a creator’s own wording describes their image well. Merchant sites you reach by tapping a product are outside our control entirely.
Tell us what blocks you
If something on Avahit stops you from doing what you came to do, write to [email protected] with the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within five working days and to fix accessibility blockers ahead of feature work.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may contact the enforcement body responsible for accessibility in your country; in the EU each member state designates one under the European Accessibility Act.
